April Showers Bring May Flowers

Picture #1
Happy April afternoon!

Picture #2
Today I decided to get some fresh air and take some pictures just for my blog.  So here they are.  I thought that a photo of all the flowers I found today would be a pretty neat post.  I hardly know any of their real flower names, but I'll tell you what few I do know or ones we have made up.

In picture #1 shows some white flowers which remind me of daisies.  Really these are a lot tinier, but super cute.

Picture #2 shows low growing purple flowers.  I have no idea what they are, but am thankful that they grow.  They are the hardiest flowers that I know of.

We call these morning glories (below) Easter Flowers because after we moved out here, our hill was covered with them on Easter Sunday.  It was such a beautiful sight!

Wild Onions

More wild onions

Yucca (soap weed)
Later the yucca flowers will bloom and look still prettier.

The first time I ever saw this last flower (the periwinkle colored) was a year or two ago.  I've found that they are almost always growing in a sagebrush or right next to one.  I think they are some of the prettiest wild flowers out here; however, all of them are nice.  : )

Plumb in Concert

Mom and I went to Plumb's concert!  We had so much fun with our friends and newish experiences.

Special guest JJ Heller (and her husband)

Plumb!

This is one of my favorite photos

I actually got a picture with her!
When I was getting her autograph she asked if I liked the movie Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken and I told her that it was one of my favorites.  Who would have thought this famous Christian singer and I have the same interest?  I think we would get along just fine.  : )

April 23rd

There's never a time when you have nothing to write about, however, there are tons of chances to think you don't have anything to write.  And now is that time.  Lately on the ranch, we've been doing stuff, but not much that's grand enough to blog about.

I've been editing a book I wrote a couple years ago and am realizing that I didn't do much research...okay...none.  It's a messed up story.  The amount of stolen money has changed three times, some characters haven't done enough law-breaking for what I'm sentencing them to, and part of it seems that two books are being jammed together.  Ugh!  So, that's what I've been up to this week.

We started our garden, put chicken wire around our little fruit trees to keep the deer away, and have been TRYING to plant some flowers to pretty up the yard.  Chickens and Big J.'s dog make that pretty tough.

Dad killed a rattle snake yesterday and I got the pleasure of skinning it.  We tacked the skin on a piece of barn wood and are very impressed with how it looks.  This was one of the best colored snakes we've gotten.

Alright then.  I guess this is all that I'll post for now.  Thanks for reading!  : )

Happiness

The pale yellow grass waves in the breeze.  The western sun casts long shadows as the fat, fluffy clouds scurry across the sky.  This is a place to call home.  Where man can see from horizon to horizon.  Where only the wind is heard and the rustling of grass.  Nothing is in his way.  Nothing to hinder his view.  It's pure--pure country landscape.

I wrote this on the tenth.  I'm not sure why I wrote it, but sometimes a writer just has to stop everything they're doing and write something down.  This was one of those things.  Today while I was looking for pictures for this post, I accidently clicked on my documents instead of pictures.  My eyes fell on the document entitled, SSBS (short stories by Savannah), so I opened it and read a tiny bit.  I felt I should use this paragraph above for this post.

For weeks I've wanted to let you read a sample of my writing but have never known what to use, partly for fear that someone might use it.  But I suppose I have to face fears.

Now--if I could only find a picture that even half way fits this post, I'd be set and ready to let the world read this.

Good news!  We got rain!

Have you ever been in years of drought and the rain seems to only fall east of you?  Ugh!  This drought has made ranching a little big bit of a tough task.  But finally, last night we got 40/100th of rain.  The thunder--oh the thunder!  It's been a long time since we've heard thunder that actually rumbles and clashes.  Some was quiet and off in the distance, some was right here and loud.  One sounded like it had little screams in it.  We also got a lot of lightning.  Needless to say, I was awake for part of the night, listening, and watching my room light up.
Thank You, God!

I hope you can tell that I'm in a good mood, 'cause I am.  It's just wonderful and fresh here on the ranch.  Have a wonderful day and rest of the week!

Proverbs 16:20
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

Git Along Little Dogies

As you can see in this week's pictures, we were at a branding.  With spring, comes brandings which is one of my favorite things to do.

This branding, however, I did not flank, but I was kept hopping by giving shots.  At one point, I was even doing two different shots at once.   I kind of got behind...which was easy to do because there were four really good ropers who brought in one calf right after another.  Syringes don't fill themselves, you know.

Because I wasn't flanking, there was a chance for me to take pictures.  Mom took over the shot I was giving and I pulled out my camera.  It felt good to be taking photos of a branding again; that's something I haven't done in a long time.

We got some good rides in, my horse kicked her heels a bit, no one was tossed, and there were only the normal scratches, bruises, and soreness that comes with brandings.  Thankfully, the weathermen weren't right on the target when they were saying the day was going to be in the 90's and super windy!  Actually, the day was perfect.  Foggy and cold/cool in the morning, then a little warmer in the late morn., and lastly, scattered clouds and hot in the afternoon.  Jackets were taken off and put on quite often throughout the day as folks couldn't decide whether they were cold or hot.

And like always, it was good to be around great friends.  May the branding tradition live on.  : )

Happy Easter

Baby, 17 or 18 year old mare

Thursday snuck up on me and therefore, this post isn't very impressive.  Sorry, but I think this week, or at least this post, is going to be very short.

I've been staying busy with writing, riding, and finishing 10th grade school.  We have some Easter plans and will be spending time with Mom's side of the family.

If I don't get back before Easter, I hope you all enjoy this season.  Happy Easter!

Mark 16:5-7

As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
"Don't be alarmed," he said.  "You are looking for Jesus of Nazarene, who was crucified.  He has risen!  He is not here.  See the place where they laid him.
But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee.  There you will see him, just as he told you.'"
